Cleaning an ultrasonic blade depends on the application, the type of product being cut, and the production environment.
Proper maintenance ensures optimal cutting performance, reduces unexpected downtime, and extends the blade’s lifespan.
Below are the most common methods.

Cleaning Methods for an Ultrasonic Blade

  1. Self-cleaning by vibration in a water bath
    • When the ultrasonics are activated in a clean water basin, the blade’s vibration helps dislodge residues.
    • Ideal for sticky or sugary products (e.g., fruit paste, cakes).
  2. Regular manual wiping
    • During production breaks, the operator can wipe the blade with a clean cloth or a food-approved wipe.
    • Always deactivate the ultrasonics before handling the blade.
  3. Clean-In-Place (CIP)
    • In automated lines, water nozzles or cleaning solution nozzles can spray the blade at regular intervals.
    • This system must be integrated during the equipment design stage.
  4. Soaking and manual washing at the end of production
    • At the end of a shift or production run, removable blades can be soaked in hot water with a mild detergent, then rinsed and dried with compressed air or lint-free cloths.

Precautions for Cleaning an Ultrasonic Blade

  • Never clean a blade while the ultrasonics are activated.
  • Avoid abrasive or corrosive products that could damage the blade.
  • Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and procedures.
